Invasive maintenance - sculptures

All works located within the museum's exhibition or storage spaces are checked at regular intervals to determine their conservation status. If a work is deemed to be at risk from any deterioration factor, measures are taken to ensure its protection. These measures may relate to the work's environment and location (setting environmental conditions, placing in an appropriate position etc.) or to the work itself. In the second case, the work is transferred to the conservation laboratory, and after precise mapping of the damage, the analysis and photographing of the work, conservators reach conclusions and undertake the appropriate repairs to protect the work. These invasive operations may relate to the restoration of the work's form and shape, the cleaning of the surface, the restoration of destroyed portions (if necessary), future protection against deterioration factors, and any aesthetic restoration required so that viewers of the work are able to fully appreciate the artist's original intent. Conservation work is always guided by ethical and moral standards, formed by international conservation organizations and in keeping with the protection of cultural heritage.
