Restoration of mechanical damage

Mechanical damage to paper supports are creases, rips, holes and losses. During the first stage of repair the handmade Japanese paper, with special specifications, is glued onto the surface is such a way so that it rests on a very small area around the damaged area. During this procedure a reversible water-soluble methyl cellulose adhesive is used. The aim of this intervention is to restore the surface loss and mechanical strength of the support. Then, whether the damage is a hole or excessive loss, a piece of Japanese paper of suitable grade, weight, color, texture and size is adhered onto the Japanese paper initially used to just cover the loss.
