Paper
Humidity / temperature
Paper, a highly sensitive material, wears out mainly due to humidity and high temperature, biological attack, light and even man himself. Humidity can cause discolorations and oxidation of the work. Humidity also encourages biological infestation through the growth of fungi and microorganisms. Sunlight or very bright light containing UV radiation causes photochemical oxidation of the paper support while also altering the painted medium. Man contributes to wear with unsuitable treatments or procedures.

Photochemical oxidation
In general, materials of plant origin contain photosensitive ingredients, such as lignin and hemicelluloses. The ingredients of paper are very sensitive to the effects of ultraviolet radiation. Photodegradation can take place in the absence or presence of oxygen. In the latter instance, the phenomenon is more particularly described as photooxidation. This phenomenon leads to the creation of color groups, which induce the yellowing of paper. The exposure of paper to light can have other effects, such as fading, bleaching, etc
