Wear Factors

Paper
Paper, a highly sensitive material, suffers the most wear from humidity, high temperature, biological factors, light, and even mankind. Moisture can cause discolorations and oxidation to paper works, also encourage its biological infestation by fungi and microorganisms. Sunlight or very bright light containing UV radiation causes photochemical oxidation of the paper substrate while also altering any painted medium. Humans can also contribute to wear by mishandling the work or by subjecting it to improper procedures.

  • Deterioration of the adhesive capacity due to high temperatures. (Possible cracking in the wood due to temperature shifts)
